Tap Guarded apps during setup or in Settings and Apple’s own app picker slides up. This sheet is built and run by iOS, not by Tollgate, which has two nice consequences:
- Every app on your phone is listed, with real icons.
- Your picks never leave your phone. Apple hands Tollgate an opaque reference, not a list of names. Tollgate knows how many apps you guard, never which ones. The full story is here.
Adding and removing apps
Your guarded apps show up as icon tiles. To remove one, tap the tile once to arm the ✕, then tap again to confirm. If you change your mind, the ✕ disarms itself after a few seconds. Adding more is the same picker again, any time, from Settings.
Changing your selection re-arms the guard with a fresh block. Opening the picker and cancelling changes nothing.
The limits
- Free guards one app. Pick your worst one. Pro covers the rest, and if you select more than your plan covers, Tollgate asks you to choose rather than silently ignoring the extras.
- iOS tops out around 50 apps. Past that, Apple’s shield quietly stops covering some of them. Tollgate warns you when you cross the line but will not stop you. Realistically, if 50 apps need guarding, start with the three that hurt.
One practical note
The picker needs a real iPhone. Screen Time does not exist in the iOS simulator, and there is no iPad or Mac version of the gate. See what Tollgate runs on.
