What happens when you get it wrong?

Nothing dramatic. A red pill says “Not quite. Here’s another.” and about a second later a fresh question appears.

That is the entire punishment. There is no cooldown, no lockout, no three strikes. Take as many questions as you need. The footer on the quiz screen says it plainly: No lockouts. Ever.

Why so soft?

Because lockouts get apps deleted. The moment a blocker turns into a wall, you uninstall it, and then it protects nothing. Tollgate’s bet is different: the friction is the pause, and the pause is where you decide whether you actually wanted to scroll or were just running on autopilot. One question is enough friction to make that a real decision.

The details

• Every retry is a different question. No memorizing the answer and tapping through.
• Difficulty adjusts to you. Miss two in a row and the questions step down a level. Get a couple right and they step back up. The toll should cost you a thought, not a study session.
• Wrong answers count in your stats as questions answered, which is why your accuracy number is honest rather than flattering.
• Streaks only care about correct answers. A rough night of misses does not break a streak, only a day with no correct answers at all does.

And remember, there is always a second way through the gate: close the phone. That counts as a win.
