Pausing the guard for today

Updated 28 Jul 2026

Some days the gate should stand down. Travel days, sick days, the World Cup final. For those, Tollgate has a proper off switch: Pause for today.

How it works

Settings → Pause for today. A confirmation sheet asks once:

Pause until midnight? No gates for the rest of today. Nothing will interrupt you. That’s the point of asking.

Confirm, and the guard stands down completely. No counting, no shields, no tolls, and Home shows “Paused for today” so there is never any doubt about the state.

At midnight, local time, the guard re-arms itself. You do nothing. Tomorrow starts guarded, which is the entire design: pausing requires one decision, staying paused forever would require re-deciding every day, and that asymmetry quietly works in your favor.

Changed your mind mid pause? Tap Resume the guard in Settings or on the Home screen and gates are back within seconds, starting with a fresh allowance.

What pausing does to your streak

Less than you fear. The pause screen says it plainly: your streak keeps what you already earned. If you had answered a toll correctly earlier today, today still counts. If you pause before answering anything, today has no correct answer, so an active streak would end at yesterday’s count, the same as any other quiet day. How streaks count days.
